Ordinary life has a way of being, well, ordinary.  Most of our hours are spent on repetitive tasks, routines that maintain and support our existence.  Yet, Christ claims these hours and labors as his own.

In Ephesians 6, Paul calls us to serve our heavenly Master in our work. he invites us to look beyond earthly bosses and co-workers, and employees -- to the Savior, who is our Lord and Master.  We look beyond the earthly bosses to our heavenly Master.  We serve Him.

He has placed us in our various callings.  Doing our various tasks is his will for us.  We are students and teachers, moms and dads, employees and managers, owners and helpers.  In all things we serve the Lord Christ.

This is a radically different perspective.  We were slaves of sin, and by Christ's might sacrifice, we are now slaves of God.  We were once proud  and finding fulfillment and identity in our work and position.  Our Heavenly Lord left his position to be a servant for us and for our salvation. he humbled himself to lift us up.
