Seeking God

Jesus gave a remarkable promise to us in John 14.  He said he would continue to do his work after he left.  It is clear that he would do so by the Holy Spirit.  It is also clear that he would do so as his people prayed.

He says we may pray in his name -- and he will hear and do for us as we ask.  To pray in his name means to ask him to do what matters to him.  We know what that is -- the calling and building of the church.  He gave his life for the church.

Elsewhere Jesus taught about prayer and fasting. Fasting is a means of underscoring our desires before God.  It is mark of earnest intent.

We find in the Book of Acts examples of prayer and fasting as the church participates in the continuing work of Christ in the calling of the church.

Prayer is our expression of utter dependence.  Prayer is a renouncing of self-sufficiency.  Prayer is also hunger for God to work.  Fasting and praying a desperate hunger.

The pastors of Grace Church are calling the church to two days of prayer and fasting. We are turning our eyes and hearts to our Mission.  God has provided us with a facility to use as a base for ministry -- training pastors, starting new churches, community ministry.  Now we are to seek him for how to procede and ask him for the resources needed for the Mission.

Grace Church members are called to prayer and fasting on Februaty 1 and 15th.  Guidelines are available HERE (ADOBE PDF) and a prayer list is available HERE (ADOBE PDF).
