The Songs
Posted September 2, 2008
This week, the goal was to heighten our expectation and anticipation for corporate worship (our time of singing during the Sunday Service) and Pastor Eric Turbedsky was literally preaching to the choir. Our text presented a grand view of the heavenly assembly of the saints and what would be our final resting place.
We sing because we are worshippers. We come Sunday after Sunday and sing many of the same songs we’ve sung a hundred times prior, only to do it once again with every ounce of strength we can, by grace, muster. Out of our lungs come songs that make much of Him, that declare our love and devotion for Him, our complete and utter satisfaction in the work of our Savior upon the Cross. We sing as our right and proper response to God’s initiative. He is seeking worshippers and we are those He has chosen...to sing. You were made to worship. When preaching and the sacraments and evangelism and benevolence and every kind of service ends...still we will be singing.
Corporate worship is the indispensable, inexhaustible, inescapable activity of the church.
